Dr. Katherine: I will look in files for the statement re William of
Orange and Henri. Might not get to it for several days. You and I
are probably distantly related as my lineage is also from Matthew.

Hi, Sean,
In response to your question about descendents of Henri
Cabanis from France, I am descended from Henri and his son,
Matthew. We are still in Virginia.
An interesting tidbit for others on the list. A couple of
years ago, I was in Paris, and found the street named for a
Cabanis, whom I am told by the French was personal physician
to Napolean. The street is relatively short, only two or
three city blocks long, and is the address of one of the most
famous psychiatric hospitals in France.
In addition, I have a brother who has traveled extensively in
Europe. On one occasion in Florence, Italy, he was told the
name Cabanis is an old name in Florence. I just returned
from Greece, and met several people there who were familiar
with the name Cabanis--either went to school with someone of
this name or had been friends with a Cabanis. I was told by
a Latin professor in college that he believed the name is of
Greek origin. I have no documentation prior to our French
ancestors. However, it seems we could have begun our
migrations in Greece, moved to Italy, France, and on to America.
I would love to know of any documentations to support any of
the above as well as the statement by Mary P concerning an
alliance with William of Orange.
