I was going through the archives of another group when I saw this website. So not being
an very good web person, I thought I would go to it.
The site was just given as:-
The header was "Neat site, if you aren't aware of it." and with only this
link above in the message book.
When I went through a few levels and got to the family trees, I put in BOYD and up came a
screen which gave me an English or Scottish version of the name. As some as I saw that I
became suspicious because about 3 years ago one Christmas at our local Shopping Mall a
person was selling the same sort of information.
So I hit print. Sure enough under Copyright was the name SWYRICK CORPORATION. This was
the same name on the two version of the name Boyd that I had bought in 2002 which was not
a very good version of the origins of the names Boyd.
The last page of the 6 page print out was advertising commercial products you could buy.
While it said it was last updated on 29 January 2006, it did list the Arthur Merric
Bloomfield Boyd (1920- ) Australian painter/sculptor. Arthur died about 5 years ago hear
"Suggested Readings for the name Boyd -
"The Boyds of Albany; Three Generations" by Joanne B. Newton, "the Boyd of
Boyds Tank" by Frank Ewell Boyd.
Each of these books only deal with one single Branch of the Clan. I have 4 or 5 pages
listing Boyd books and even listing all those I would not claim you will learn all about
Clan Boyd. Those title on the 5 pages would only represent 1 or 2% of the total members
of the Clan. I am not aware of any work that would given an overview of the Clan.
Of the 11 noteworthy Boyds list 7 belong to the Boyd artist family of Australia and not
any of the English Boyds.
In the order section at the back, it list an number of products under "Boyd Coat of
Arms/Family Crest". I did not look at these to see if they were the Head of the Clan
pre 1263 or the more modern Earl's Arms of 1746. Certainly they could not be
anyone's individual Arms or even the several Cadet Branches that do have Arms.
At the top of the 6 page print out it said:-
"Where did the name Boyd come from? What is the coat of arms/family crest? When did
they first arrive in the United States? Where did the various branches of the family
I can't see where you go to find this information. (At present I am producing enough
steam to power the State Electricity grid).
So perhaps some kind sole - who is web wise - may be able to look at this site and tell us
what this information is?
As for me, my Boyd family, have yet to get to the United States.
I would regard the site as a Commercial venture which will give you products THAT MAY
REPRESENT SOME PARTS OF THE OF THE HEAD OF THE CLAN.
For your interest, I have some 26 or so different Origins to where the Boyds came from;
I have about 14 or so different coat of Arms for various Cadet Branches and famous Boyds;
And I have Boyds being in America from about 1640's and with the name intake starting
So it will be interesting to see what is said about the questions they raise.
