The question can up during my visit to Ireland and Ayrshire last year. And while I was
able to meet some Boyds, I would have liked to have meet even more to say that yes there
more of us about then those in this village or valley.
One of the easier ways would to contact people is in your local phone book who are listed
UNDER BOYD. So if you like in Nashville, TN, Leesburg, GA, Sherburne, NY or Dallas, TX or
in any other County in the world, you may like to contact the Boyd in your local phone
If you can do this you may wish to tell the group what town/district/County etc that you
will be ringing around. You may like to do one per night or week or some other time
periods when you have free time
WHEN YOU RING UP what do you say.
i) that Boyd (and it spelling variations) are an old Scottish Clan going back in
Scotland to the 1,100's;
ii) that they initially came from northern Ayrshire and from the 1316 to 1746 the Head
of the Clan lived in Dean Castle, Kilmarnock;
iii) that the Clan was involves with Wallace, the Bruce and many other events of
importance to Scotland;
iv) That they have spread to many Counties in the World (if you need a list I can give
that to you if you wish);
v) that there is an website they can go to - http://www.clanboyd.org
vi) that there is an Net group - BOYD-L(a)rootsweb.com that they can subscribe to and
make contact with other Boyds in other parts of the World or try to find their own
families origins amongst the thousands of Boyd descendants around the world.
vii) organise an meeting of these Boyd ever 2, 3 or 4 months to help pass on some of
the Boyd history and knowledge about he clan to others. This could be an coffee morning
or BBQ or some other form.
Other members of this group may have other suggestions as to what people could say to
other Boyd members when they ring up. Or even other ways Boyd can contact other Boyd
I put this forward for a discussion for list members.
