I have just been sent this tree which I think has been MIXED.
“10th Generation (Great(7)-grandparents)
166. John Boyd was born on Aug. 27, 1751 in Ruthwell, Dumfriesshire, Scotland and died in
1834 in Blount County, Tennessee,
USA. He married 1st Marget Hodge in 1770.
Other events in the life of John Boyd
Military Service Between 1818 and 1832 Tennessee, US
Father: 194. James John Boyd was born in 1714 in Langshaw, Roxburgh, Scotland and died on
Feb. 10, 1789 in Shippensburg,
Cumberland, Pennsylvania, United States.
Mother: 195. Jannet Brown was born in 1715 in Scotland.”
At this stage, I think the John Boyd born in 1751 in Ruthwell has been mixed with a John
Boyd who died in 1834 in Blount County, East TN.
This source does not say where John Boyd and Marget (Margaret) Hodge were married in
I could not find this John Boyd listed amongst the 16 or so John Boyds listed in the 1990
DAR Patriot List.
I would question that this John Boyd’s father is the Boyd of Shippensburg, Cumberland Co.,
PA who died in about 1789. That John Boyd was married to a Nancy Urie who was killed in a
Indian attach in 1756.
I will post that generation separately.
So do you have any John Boyds who died in 1834 in Blount County, East Tennessee that can
be tested against what is outlined for this family?
