The House of Boyd will be represented at
the 2nd Annual Dixon Scottish Games and Gathering
today. (Saturday 9/29/01) Any of you near enough,
please join us at the Clan tent. The event runs from
9am - 5pm and there will be a free Celidh* at 6pm.
It is held at the Fairgrounds. [Dixon is about
10-15 miles south of Sacramento, CA]
Last year was their inaugural year and there was
an outstanding turnout. The Sacramento Caledonia
Club used to hold their event in Dixon many years
ago, but outgrew the venue. Folks in town misssed
it enough they plotted and planned and finally began
the Dixon Scottish Cultural Association and brought
the Scots back to Dixon, home of the Scottish Meat
Pie Company. [My favorite haggis* maker!]
It promises to be warm and wonderful day, perfect for the
wearing of wool kilts! Bring your cooler and join us
as we gather among other Scots to talk of family and
Volunteers anticipated at the tent today are
myself and Cal, our genealogist, Board Member
Chris Boyd and perhaps Michael Boyd of Santa Cruz
as well as Nona Boyd and Sally Boyd, if she is
able to be away from work today.

Follow their links and you can even order a haggis or two!
*celidh pronounced kay-lee, a Scottish party, entertainment
ususally provided by those in attendance. It is as good or
as bad as those present make it.... if you can tell a joke,
that is what you do, if you play the pipes, you play, if you
feel like strummin' your guitar for a sing a long, that is part
of it as well. Food may or may not be a part of the gathering.
At Scottish Games and Gathering events, there is a "formal"
celidh held by many. Professional entertainers will let their
hair down a bit and perform as with family, there is generally
food for sale. This is true for tonight's event.
*haggis -- a traditional dish of Scotland --- nope, you don't even
want to know what's in it! : ) Let's just say that a good haggis
is very, very good... and a bad haggis.... well, .... there is
simply nothing more disgusting!
