I am fine in Indianapolis area. As I live near the Indianapolis
International Airport the silence in the air those few days was striking.
Our city was host to several unexpected guests when the planes were quickly
landed on 9/11. A flight from Canada to Mexico ended up staying in a local
summer children's camp ground. Our local churches had helped collect
bedding, towels to help the Red Cross bed them down. I took out one of the
loads and happened to be in the day room where everyone had gathered when the
President spoke that night. I can't really describe the looks on their faces
although I can't forget it. So many of them realized that something like
that could have happened to their plane. They had never planned to stop in
America, but they were trusting in us to help keep them safe. They mostly
spoke French or Spanish, but were listening carefully to our President trying
to make sense of this through a language barrier. It was our native tongue,
but we still had a hard time really understanding what had happened. Even
now it doesn't completely seem real. It is to horrific to be real.
Pray for us in Indy as we host the Grand Prix Racing event in Speedway. The
race on Sunday will be a large international event which makes us hope that
the added security is very, very good.
