Part of what you will discover is that the Picts were
Irish and before that will be found on the Continent.
Pictii is what the Romans called them. [Painted]
I read somewhere they were among the people known as Scotti
that went to Scotland and established the Dalriada in the
West Central area and will be found north of Hadrian's
The picts were short -- this I have heard as an explanation
for the short stature of my Irish Ancestors. The Scots were
known to be tall.
I have found only 4 books listed at Amazon.com
on the Picts.
has 8 books listed on the Picts, however,
if you email Chuck, or call him, he might direct you to the
best of the 8 or have more to tell you. Tea and Sympathy is
a great little "bookstore". I have been buying from Chuck and
Nancy at the Scottish Games for years. If there are out
of print books, rare books, or hard to find books, he is
really good at finding them for his customers. They carry
more on Scots, Irish, Cornish and Welsh history and interest
than most of your larger chains. Tell them I sent you and
say hello for me. It won't get you a discount, nor me a fee,
but it is always nice for them to know how they have gotten a new customer and that we
have sent you their way.
Google has 270,000 hits.

Those familiar with the Celts divide them up into three categories: the Scottish, the
Irish, and the Welsh. However, for a long time there was another group called the Picts
who were, for centuries, the most powerful inhabitants of the British Isles. Today
however, much about them remains a mystery, with hardly any record of them after the
mid-9th century AD.
Good luck to you Vickie! Maybe your paper could turn into a series of
articles for the Dean Road! <g> We will be interested to hear how your
research turns out.

This non traditional age college student has to write a 10 page paper on the Picts and I
was wondering if any of you, in your research, has run across any good books, papers or
websites with Pict info. The topic was my choice. I needed an ancient culture to write
about and I figured, hey, why not learn a bit more about the ancient Scottish folks. This
will at least make the paper interesting for me. :)
Thanks in advance!
