James: Thanks for your posting. My experience with Farquhar has not been
as bad as yours, and I thank Mrs Bowles Kelley, and her daughter about to
enter society in Richmond, are to be thanked for funding it. There is a
lot of material quoted with the sources mentioned, which is of great
value to Bowles researchers. It is a good collection, but a poor
genealogy. His weakness is in the connecting of facts and families on
hunches, and the stating of some of these connections as fact. He at
least helps by identifying the Virginia Line, The Wells,Me. Line, the
Roxbury Line, and so on . The various English sources are generally
checkable, but his pre-Gideon history seems pure fiction. So it pays to
keep your eyes open, and to resist the temptation to agree with a
