Seeking info on Mary "Polly" Boles/Bowles b. ca 1810 KY and d. bef 1909
in Douglas Co, KS - m. 12 Apr 1830 in Morgan Co, IN to Peter Epperson.
Mary and Peter are found of the 1860 census of Monmouth Twp, Shawnee Co,
KS and living with them is Nancy Boles/Bowles, Mary's mother. Nancy
Boles/Bowles is b. ca 1783 VA. Nancy disappears after this census so am
assuming she died in either Shawnee or neighboring Douglas Co, KS where
Mary & Peter moved to Lecompton, Douglas Co, KS.
These 3 people came to Douglas Co, KS with a group of people of the
United Brethern faith and they arrived in Lawrence, KS on 20 June 1855
from Hartsville, IN. They helped to build the first United Brethern
Church in KS in 1856. Traveling with the group in 1855 when they
arrived in KS was a Robert Boles/Bowles - don't know anything further on
Have been told that Nancy Bowles/Boles may be the wife of John
Boles/Bowles who lived/died in Morgan Co, IN about 1840/50? Was
checking some early land records in Morgan Co, IN and there is no John
Boles/Bowles listed for original land sales there. However, there is
the following Bowles listed in Morgan Co from May 1837 to Jan 1843:
Alexander, Anthony, Cyrus, David, Robert, William & Joshua. On 1830
census of Morgan Co, IN there was the following heads of families:
William, Tobert (Robert?) & John Bowles. Does anyone have access to
1850 census records for Boles/Bowles in Morgan Co, IN or Bartholomew Co,
IN? Know that they were supposedly in Hartsville by May 1855 when they
left to move to KS.
And it's evident that in 1810 that Nancy Bowles/Boles and husband were
living in Kentucky in 1810 when Mary was born.
Does anyone know anything further on this family and can you give me
further info on my husband's ancestors? Thanks so much for any
assistance with this query. Will be happy to share what data I have.
