Funeral services for James L. Bowen, 80, were held Thursday, June 25,
at 2 p.m. in the Edelen-Lyon Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Wallace J.
Parker and Rev. Hoyt Parsley were in charge of the services. Burial
was in the Brookside Cemetery. Active pallbearers were: Jim Buck
Bowen, Lewis Bowen, Floyd Wise, J. R. Bowen, Ernest Wise, and R. T.
Janes. Honorary pallbearers were: Leslie Bowen, Harlan Beck, Virgil
Phillips, Albert Wise, Chester Wise, Melvin Janes, Truman Wise, and
Omer Bowen. Bowen was the son of the late Rezin and Eliza Bowles.
He was born June 3, 1873 in the Long Branch community of Taylor
County and died June 24, 1953 at the Rosary Hospital following a
stroke suffered Saturday, June 20. Bowen professed faith in Christ
early in life and was a member of the Union Ridge Methodist Church,
Spurlington. He united in marriage to Virginia Cowherd, December 25,
1912, who survives. Other survivors are: sister, Mrs. O. C. Ramsey,
Campbellsville; nephews: Walter Bowen, C!
olumbia; Charles Bowen, Newport; and Herbert Bowen, Taylor County;
nieces: Mrs. Robert Vaughn, Louisville; and Mrs. Tom Dabney,
Campbellsville. Two brothers, George Bowen and John T. Bowen
