Welcome to the Bowles List. You will find some very nice and helpful people here.
I am very glad to see a UK researcher on the list.
For some time I had thought that my gggrandfather was from Great Yarmouth and so I spent
a lot of time researching the Bowles in that area.A number of the Bowles there were
publicans. One of the pubs owned by a Bowles there was called the Barking Smack ( love
that name). I will have to dig a bit however I may have some info to contribute to your
Also there is a researcher in Australia who had a Justin Bowles from Yarmouth. Perhaps
he is out there and can contribute as well.My search for my Bowles in Yarmouth was a dead
end and now have found my ancestors in Essex , not far from Colchester.

Firstly, thanks to Linne who suggested I joined the list and posted my
Bowles interests after picking up on an unrelated post I made elsewhere on
I currently have 5 Bowles appearing in my family tree. None of these are
direct descendants of myself but I am still interested in furthering my
knowledge of them.
In brief, the 5 Bowles are:
Birth 1871 -- Yarmouth, Norfolk
Bowles, Frances E
Birth 1877 -- Yarmouth, Norfolk
Bowles, Jessie Maria
Birth 1875 -- Scarborough, Yorkshire
Death 1906 -- Kingston upon Hull
Bowles, John A
Birth 1879 -- Yarmouth, Norfolk
Birth 1873 -- Yarmouth, Norfolk
Jessie Maria Bowles is my closest descendant, and I have the most
information about her.
If any of the 5 people above look familiar I'd be interested to hear from
you so I can expand my Bowles interests.
Full details on these 5 people can be viewed online at
Willerby, East Riding of Yorkshire
