winning the battle. Plenty of Moncriefs in Greene County. I'll hope

Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY-L] John Medley Thompson
I think this information is incorrect. There were two different John
Thompsons--see as follows:
John MEDLEY Thompson, son of George Thompson and Rebecca Medley was
b. 1711-1717 and died in St. Mary's County before 6/6/1750. He
married Eleanor Cissell, dau. of Luke Cissell and Thomasine Hayden,
as stated and had a son named John, Jr. Admin. accts. of John Medley
Thompson dated 6/6/1750 and 7/3/1750. Appraisers were Leonard Payne
and Thomas Van Reswick.
Next of kin was Robert and Thomas Thompson. Executors: John Bradburn
and his wife, Eleanor. His accts. again 8/4/1752 by John Bradburn,
surviving administrator. Eleanor Cissell was married first to John
Bowles, secondly to John Medley Thompson, and third to John Bradburn.
Another reference: 7/11/1737, Admin. accts. of John Bould (Bowles)
of SMC. Admin.: Eleanor Thompson, wife of John Medley Thompson.
Now, onto the other John Thompson. This one died 1739 in Charles Co.
He married Mary Green, dau. of Robert Green and Mary Boarman, as
stated. But, this man was NOT John Medley Thompson

website or list will forward it to the right place.
Anna J. Green, born may 20, 1848, was first married to James E.
Patrick on January 5, 1870.
Their son Thomas William Patrick was born between Dec of 1870 and Jan
of 1871. (His mothers petition for guardianship was applied for on
December 2, 1871, when she stated he was eleven months old.) Anna J.
Patrick stated that the minors father, James Patrick "is dead."
James E. Patrick was the son of William and Isabella Patrick. William
Patrick died in November 1863 and his will and the subsequent challenge
to the will is in Harrison County records, Texas.
Other siblings of James E. Patrick include;
A. M. Ellis
E. M. Patrick
S. G. Tomlinson
John E. Patrick
Felix H. Patrick (Alive 1863, deceased by Spring 1864???)
Mary C. Edmonson
In fact, James E. Patrick contests the will against all his other
siblings first mentioned above. Felix and Mary are not mentioned except
that Felix's children have stake in the inheritance, indicating Felix was
dead by the time of the succession, which carried into the 1870's.

Having checked the IGI at familysearch.com, I can now answer part of my own
question about Claiborne BOWLES. Various sources say that Clayburn or
Claiborne Bowles was b. 23 March 1772 in Goochland County VA and christened 4
July 1773 in St. James Northam Parish in Goochland County. He was the son of
Gideon BOWLS and Charity Ann HUGHES. His will was either dated or recorded
on 16 September 1799 in Goochland County.
As for a connection to Fleming Bowles, I can't see it. Chesterfield County
and Goochland county are not far apart, but Fleming was born in 1764, long
before this Claiborne. "Gideon" and "Claiborne" are not names that occur in
Fleming's line. But I'd be glad to hear more!

maybe even twins. They would have known a BOWLES family especially Elva C.
Bowles..Brothers and sisters of Elva were Emmett, Samuel, Ira, Johnnie,
Maggie, Addie, Dora Cassie, Mildred, Glenna. Elva's dad was Jerimiah Lee
Bowles and Her mother was Emma (Taylor) Bowles. Her Grandfather was James

appreciated. There seems to be more people here and thought I might just
drop in again to see if there is any new information. I live in Harrison

I'm also researching my husband's Roberts(Robards/Roberds) line in
Buncombe/Madison Co. NC. We've finally made a break through in identifying
the parents his gggrandmother, Malinda Roberts (Ingle/Engle) as Robert
Gaines Roberts and Mary "Polly" Deweese. This was made possible by the
discovery of another researcher of estate settlement papers of Robert G.
Roberts who died intestate. The parents of Robert G. Roberts were Robert
Roberts and Nancy Cody. He (apparently) served in the War of 1812 from
Buncombe Co. NC.

I have been in touch with Ronda Wicks about George BOWLES, English
Quaker. Not my relative - but I'm re-posting her reply here (with her
permission) in case it helps someone else.

Here is what the book says about George BOWLES for you:
GEORGE BOWLES, formerly of Giles-Chalfont, within the Compass of
Meeting in Buckinghamshire, was convinced of Truth in London, about the
1681...He was not only serviceable in the Ministry but was eminently so
the Discipline and Givernment of the Church, in which he was frequently
concern'd and zealous that nothing might remain which would eclipse the
Lustre and Beauty thereof. Thus sweetly did he walk through a Course of
Years; and when through bodily Infirmities rendered incapable of getting
Meeting, which was a Mile from his House, he removed to High-wickham,
he might be near the Meeting-house.
About five Days before his Death, he was seized with a strong Fever, in
which the Lord was pleased to be with him, to the Comfort of Friends who
were about him...
He departed this Life on the 18th of the Eleventh Month 1721, and his
accompanied by Friends, was interred in their Burial-ground in
New-Jourdan's, the 22nd of the same.
(From the book Piety Promoted, The Eighth Part, The Second Edition by
W. Flagstaffe Printed and sold by Mary Hinde, at No.2, in George Yard,
Lombard Street, London 1775)
Hope this helps,
Several months ago, Ed Bowles mentioned that Fleming BOWLES "came from the
Claiborne Bowles line of Chesterfield" County, Virginia. Does anyone have
information about Claiborne, or about a book Ed mentioned by Dorothy
Baumgardner? I have been unable to find such a book listed on the Library of
Congress site <http://lcweb.loc.gov/catdir/catdir.html#search> and would be
interested in knowing more about Claiborne Bowles and/or the book.
