I went to the Clayton Library today. I was saving the post from you with
the name of the books that you wanted, so I didn't write down the name
of the books. I must have accidently deleted the posts so I wasn't sure
what books I was looking for. I looked through twenty three volumes of
"Historical Southern Families", 4 or 5 volumes of "Some Southern
Colonial Families", and 7 volumes of "Colonial Families of the United
States". There was a Bowles name here or there, not very many, but
only where a Bowles was marrying into another family. I did not copy
those. I guess I should have but I was looking for a section on a
Bowles family. If none of these was the books that you are looking for,
please let me know and I will try again.
I am new to this list. I have been unable to find anything about the parents

Best wishes to all,
Does anyone know what happened to John Fleming BOWLES' son, Anderson R
Bowles, who was in the 1850 Hart Co,Ky. census? He wasn't in the 1860
census. But, someone with his son's name,John F BOWLES, showed up in the 1860
census of Andrew C,Missouri. John would have been around 24 at that time.
John also had brothers names James BOWLES-around 23, Joseph BOWLES who would
have been around age 20, in 1860. Did Anderson
R BOWLES or any of his family, move to Missouri?
Anderson's sister, Frances Lodusky (BOWLES) CARDEN, who married Joel
Leftridge White CARDEN, was said to have moved to Laclede Co, Missouri. Does
anyone have Joel Carden on any Hart Co,Ky. census after 1869? Is one found
in Missouri after 1870? I have seen somewhere, a Frank
BOWLES, I think, in Missouri. John Fleming Jr., had a son named Francis
BOWLES, who was age 23 in the Hart Co,Ky., census. He could have been called
Lucinda (SMITH) BOWLES, widow of Henry C BOWLES who brother of Anderson R,
moved to Harrison co,Missouri, there married Pascal RICHARDSON.
Another of Anderson's sisters, Margaret Eviline BOWLES married George
Wilcoxen, then married Warren PHILLIPS in 1857. Margaret Eviline BOWLES,
also moved to Harrisin Co, Missouri.(She and last husband had a child named
Dabney PHILLIPS around 1858) Did any more of this BOWLES family go
I know that we have had members who are researching the surname
Bolling, but I don't know if they're on this list because Bowles is as
close as they feel they're going to come to Bolling, or whether the Bowles
and Bowlling families intermarried. Same goes for Boes, Bowes or Bows.
I have a friend on the Internet who is forwarding these stray
findings to me; she'd like to know (and I would too) whether we still have
researchers who are interested in these folks or not.

In the Introduction of the Book I recently purchased "Bolling v Bolling"
wherein Thomas Jefferson
represented one of the Bollings and his teacher and mentor George Wythe
represented the other,
it stated there was no formal legal education in our country. After the
Wythe became the first law professor of William and Mary College in 1779
upon the recommendation
of Thomas Jefferson, whose sister married a Bolling, and the Bollings
married into the Blair family,
who were among the first to administer the William and Mary College, as
President of the College.
It further indicates that Judge Tapping Reeve set up the nation's fir law
school in Litchfield, Conn in
1784. When Jefferson studied law he had three avenues , Inns of Court in
London, reading and
serving as a apprentice to a lawyer. Columbia had a law course (then
in 1775 as Hamilton was in attendance there at tha t time. Most of the

In looking at some notes about my Laclede Co., MO Breedlove family, I ran
across this information that I may or may not have put on the Bowles list before.
pg 30 of Ellen Byrne Book
1800 census Warren Co. N.C.:
John Breadlove, 00201-01001
Isaac Bowls, 00010-21010
John Bowls, 20010-00010
From Homer Breedlove, pg 30 of Ellen Byrne Book
..."the Upper Bolles Cemetery, about 3 mi west of Lebanon on Hway 64, is on
high ground, the older folks are buried in the Lower Bolles Cemetery, in a
valley. I heard my Dad mention, his Dad, (John M. Sr) came from Ky, and
his mother from Tenn. Doxie told me Jack Breedlove married here, but I
think she is mistaken ([Note from Ellen Byrne- think they prob. were
married in Mo. as Thos Lowry's 1st land rec, 1838, his dau Betty m. Jack
Breedlove).". . . [this is Lebanon, Laclede Co., Missouri]
[The Jack Breedlove they are talking about here is Warren Jackson Breedlove
whose parents are unknown to me. He was born 18 Jan 1817 in Kentucky.
If anyone ties up with these Bolles (Bowls) folks, let me know. Ellen
Byrne, by the way, is a cousin through the Bowles/Lowry union and descended
from my 3rd ggrandmother, Cindarilla Breedlove who married Thomas Lowry.
Is anyone else out there related to me through the Breedlove or Lowry line?
