Hi, Josephine, in the Burial Register for St. Peter's, Blaina, I
found
a John Handcock, died at 24 years of age, on 20 Dec. 1869. The Register
#ABST4/2219. If you want to check on St. Peter's cemetery, The Gwent
Family History Society, has monumental inscriptions on fiche for sale,
St. Peter's would be fiche #82, check at their website:

Hi Dot,
Thanks to you and Pam Thornbury for the look-up on John HANCOCK/HANDCOCK. The
one you have found certainly sounds a good bet.
I felt so pleased with your replies yet at the same time sad at the untimely
death of my great-great-grandfather, especially as Susan, his wife, was
imminently expecting a baby, my great-grandmother Tabitha.
I will never cease to marvel that I can put out an enquiry before I go to bed
and the answer is usually there when I wake up in the morning! It's like having
Christmas every day!
All the best,
Josephine
