Hello from a new subscriber,
My gggf Rees Prosser(b.1800 BRE Merthyr
Cynog) married Ann Davis(b.1806 Pontypool). Their son Charles Prosser
was born 1829? in Nant Y Glo. The family moved to France as one of a
group of Welsh (& English) Ironworkers and probably stayed there about
16 years until 1848. I understand that they were a rather rebellious
bunch and may have been "thrown out" of France at a time when the French
became rather xenophobic!!Rees was recorded as a "Chauffeur"- not a
driver but a Fireman or Furnaceman. Rees and Ann lived in Dowlais in
1861. Charles married in Neath Abbey in 1858 (he worked at N.Abbey
Ironworks). Another son Rees Joshua (born 1834 in France) emigrated to
Pennsylvania in 1862. Rees died in Neath Abbey in 1879. Rees ,Ann and
her brother Richard Davies are buried in Pant Cemetery Merthyr.
Can anyone help me with:
Is there a marriage index which would give Rees`marriage?
Where would Charles have been baptised?
Did the family return to Nant y Glo? 1851?
