<< I am a new subscriber, I am interested in DAVIES in Monmouth.
My great great grandfather JOHN DAVIES father HENRY DAVIES, both men
worked as colliers, is shown on the 1881,census as being born in
Monmouthshire but the name of the Parish has been partially obliterated,
it read Lan...Achva. Having looked carefully through a map, I believe
this may be the village of Llanfrechfa, allowing for spelling variation.
Would I be right in saying that Llanfrechfa is in the Parish of
Llandegfedd. Any help would be appreciate!

I believe they are separate parishes. I have a book "
Ancient Parish Register
of England & Wales, and they are listed separately.
Is this a census sheet you are looking at or an index? Maybe which one you are
looking at, you could check the other and see if it is any clearer.
