My great-grandmother was Sarah Davis/Davies, born Dec. 1839 in Nantyglo. Her
mother was Mary T. Davis, her father was Samuel Davis. Samuel Davis died
early, probably between 1842 and 1850 (possibly a coal-mining accident?),
because Mary remarried about 1851-1852, to Thomas Davies. Mary and Thomas
Davies immigrated to USA about 1860. Thomas was also a coal miner, but it
unknown whether he was related to Samuel.
Sarah Davis married Richard Benjamin. Richard was born in Aberdare, the son
of Thomas Benjamin and Mary, his wife. Sarah and Richard immigrated to USA,
probably around 1865. They had a son, Benjamin, aged 4 months and shown on
the 1861 census; also, possibly had a daughter, Mary Anne, born 26 May 1858,
probably in Aberdare, because the son, Benjamin was shown as born in Aberdare.
I would really like to find out just what happened to Samuel Davis. Is there
any way of checking when and how he died? I assume it was in or near
Nantyglo, but not sure. I would appreciate any advice on how to proceed.
Thanks very much.
