In "The History of Monmouthshire" I found a number of references to BELLAMY.
I believe that all or at least some of them are my forebears and I would
like to know the best way of finding out more about them. For instance one
of them, Thomas BELLAMY, was the Mayor of Monmouth on several occasions from
1706 onwards.
The BELLAMYs seem to have had a presence in the area but only after 1700 -
how and why did they suddenly appear as people of influence in the area? And
where did they come from prior to that? Were they Norman Conquest
descendants or Huguenot descendants? It is all very intriguing
There is a reference of interest about them in Rockfield which says:
"The Steps" called also the "White House" belonged in the
18th
century to the
BELLAMYs of Monmouth and a wood in Lord Llangattock's park is
called Madam Bellamy's
Wood
Is this house still standing and is the Wood still so named?
Any information welcomed.
