Regarding the Pontnewynydd chapel. I have a g-g-g-uncle, Lewis Lewis, buried
there. His father, my g-g-g-g-grandfather - Thomas Lewis Lewis, had been an
Independent minister at Horeb chapel, Tonty'rbel, Trinant. He then moved
over across the valley to the Tranch, where the family had several small
farms. Lewis Lewis lived at Pen Tranch. Which is also where the Prophet's
home was. I got some of the MI from the index at Gwent R.O. -
''In loving memory of Lewis Lewis the beloved husband of Adelaide Lewis, of
Pentranch Farm, second? (sixth) son of Rev. Thomas Lewis, late of
.......Trinant, died August ..th 1918 aged 66 years. (Welsh Verse) Also the
above Adelaide Lewis, died August 14th 1926 aged 70 years''.
My g-g-g-grandfather (Lewis' brother) was William Lewis who lived on the
tranch during the early part of his life and married Jane Williams, daughter
of William Williams.
Just wondered if there was any connection. I live in Cardiff and I'm ashamed
to say that I have still not visited Ebenezer.

Was your family associated with the strongly independent Ebenezer
chapel,
headed by the Prophet of Pontypool, Edmund JOnes? I have several
connections with that chapel and Pontnewynydd, including families of Jayne
and Williams.
My wife and I visited the chapel for one of its evening services a year
ago, and I am sorry to say, that although those few present were
enthusiastic, I am worried that its survival is in jeopardy. What a warm
reception we received!
