Thanks to Simon for letting us all know that Mr Trigg the Steward used
to have care of the Nantyglo Hermon Chapel Records, but that they are
now with a Solicitor in Abertillery. Simon, do you know whether this
is just the Burial records, or also other Registers? And do you know
whether Mr Trigg or anyone either kept copies of the records which are
with the Solicitor, or still has access to the originals? I wondered
whether I might learn anything by writing to Mr Trigg. (I'm reluctant
to write to a solicitor, as there might be huge fees involved in a
search of the records and a letter of response.)
I'm trying to find out whether a certain person was buried in the same
grave there as her husband & child (whose possible baptism there I'm
also seeking: he was born & died between Censuses); or in the same
grave there as a probable other son. Unfortunately she isn't named on
either stone (which is not conclusive evidence); and having a common
name (Ann Rees) I'm not even sure whether I've bought the right Death
Certificate (6 Oct 1881). I know 'my' Ann to have lived at 20 Bailey
Row Nantyglo, at least until April 1881; but the address on the Death
Certificate is simply 'Nantyglo'; and its informant (F Downey,
Occupier) is not listed at any address at all in Monmouthshire in the
1881 Census! (I know at least some Downeys came from Ireland: this
person could well have arrived between April & October, and perhaps
taken lodgings at this address.)
(Sorry to have rambled at length, but the basic problems could be of
interest to others, so I'll send it as it is, rather than deleting the
second half!)
