Hi Sharon and all,
As far as I am aware the workhouse for Pontypool, was at Griffithstown just a mile down
the road. It is now known as Panteg Hospital and hosts a maternity wing and convalescence
ward.
I and most people born in Pontypool since about 1950 would have been born at Panteg
Hospital, if they were not born at home.
the records for the workhouse will be stored at the
County Records Office
County Hall,
Croesyceiliog,
Cwmbran
Gwent.

Subject: Trevethin Workhouse
I have an ancestor Benjamin BUTCHER b. 1830, d. July 14,1887 age 57 at
workhouse, buried at St. Cadoc's Trevethin. Does anyone know anything
about this workhouse and if any records exist that might shed further
light on how he came to be there, how long he was there, cause of death,
etc.? Any information appreciated. TIA
Regards, Sharon
