Hi Keith,
I really appreciate your help!!!! This is all the information that I have on my
family:
Jane Price Evans was born in Garnfack (Nantyglo) on 18 Aug 1822. Her parents were
James Evans and Martha? or Jane? (Price maiden). I found "Garnfack" on the
1851 census with Jane married to Henry Phillips. (We always thought that he was also from
Nantyglo, but I found that in the 1851 census, he said he was from Lydney (Forest of Dean)
in Gloucestershire. I hadn't been able to find him in any of the parish registers, so
that was interesting. ) He and Jane were married 9 June 1844 in Abergaveny. (Again, I
think. That's what our records say, but then our records have been wrong also.)
Basically that's all I have. I wish I had more. For years we thought our
GGrandmother, Martha Phillips, had been born in "Pliney" Wales. I couldn't
find it anywhere! Then we went to Wales in 1990 and stayed in a B&B outside of
Abergavenny and I heard them say "Blaina" and it sounded like "Pliney"
so we knew we were on the right track. Also our records said they were from
"Monteyglow" and of course I couldn't find that either. It seems they came
to the US with an accent. ha haha
Well I hope you can help me. You already have!!!!
Thank you so much!!!

Hello Cynthia
The problem with the 1841 Census for the Nantyglo and Blaina area is that
many of the streets had not been named. Most of the properties were owned by
the Nantyglo,Coalbrook , Cwmcelyn and Blaina Ironworks companies and are
designated by the name of the company.
Garnfach seems to be an exception.
On the map your family would have been in an area concentratd around the
road
from the Greyhound inn to the north to the Blaina Inn in the south .
If you Let me have the 1841 details of the family and i will see if i can
narrow the area down
Keith
