Hi Judith, have you tried the places that sell car parts, they used to use
microfiche to see which part the customer wanted to buy - now they use
computers. Couldn't you see the local ones near you and see if you could
beg borrow or steal, (sorry buy cheaply), their old fiche/film reader if
they still have them out back gathering dust !
Just a thought, good luck, Mick McAllister

Subject: [Bla'Gwent] Trouble reading data for Calvary Chapel and Brynmawr
Municipal Cem
Thanks for the help and suggestions, Barrie and Sandy -- but I seem
to be
dead-ended each way I try.
For the Calvary MI fiche I already have in hand, I set up the scanner and
fooled
with every magnification and contrast combination I could think of,
but it's just not readable at home. Sandy, your eyes must be a lot better
than mine -- it's a bright day here and I tried a high-powered magnifying
glass but still couldn't see anything but blurs. Looks like I'll have to
head to a library with a fiche printer ASAP. Believe it or not, my husband
and I used to OWN both film and fiche readers but after our retirement
donated them to the island LDS FH center which was just starting up and
needed equipment urgently. (We're not LDS, but it felt like the best way to
share the equipment with others.) Now I'm wishing we'd held off for a few
months!
For the cemetery database you sent, Barrie, even when you re-sent it as a
separate
file, its file extension says .doc but it's just gibberish in Word,
and Access won't open it. What program is the data created in, do you know?
Anyway, please don't turn yourself inside out trying to get the e-file to
me.
Has anyone out there transcribed the Brynmawr cemetery burial index into
just a
normal text file? Are there gazillions of Powells 1840 onward? (I
think I already know...)
I appreciate everyone's efforts to help me out!
