Hello Peter,
The following is found in Ebbw Vale: "The Works".
Page 19-Land Rental "The leases and rentals were not regulated by any
principle but varied at random according to the nature of the individual contract.
Ty Gantre was leased with barn, beast house and several pieces of parcels of
customary land...containing by estimation 30 acres of welsh measure."
Page 22-23-Farms in the Valley "The most northerly farm in the parish of
Bedwelty was Rhyd-y-blew. Gantref-Uchaf stood on the site of the present
Glanyfrafon. A part of this farm, known as Coedcae Du, consisted of very fine pasture
land and extended to the Waunypound. On this land there was a mill known as
Melyn-y-Gantre. Further south came the farm of Gantre-Isaf on the site
formerly occupied by the Gantre cottages. Above Gantre-Isff and near the Waunypound
was the farm known as Sychffos.
Page 24-Soil, Crops, & Animals "The number of mills within the area had
increased since manorial times. In the north, there was a mill near the
Rhyd-y-blew. Proceeding south, another called Melin-Gantre, stood on the land of the
Gantre Isaf.
