Hi there,
Can anyone explain to me WHY if my family was Non-conformist in the
latter part of their lives, living in Beaufort, when a death occurred,
why they would truck the body over the hill all of the way up to
Llangattock, at St. Cadwg's??? (Almost all of my family are buried there
with the exception of Isaac Callen, who I think might have been buried at
Llangynidr with a few of his children. Two of his children were
christened thru Llangynidr parish.)
Wouldn't it just have been easier to arrange burial in Ebbw Vale or
somewhere closer? I am referring to the period of 1825 to 1840, if that
makes a difference. Can someone give me an idea of where the burial
procession would have gone (what route) and how long the trip was. It
looks like a pretty good walking distance on the maps I'm looking at, but
it is hard to tell in *human terms.*
Thank you - sorry if it seems like an odd question. (Aren't I just full
of them?)
