Hi All
The 1915 electoral register does exist for the Abertillery
constituency and is in Newport library. However, I must apologise
to Les since I have rechecked my notes and the entry for Handel
Lewis in Evelyn Street is 1907 not 1915 - I flicked over a page in
my notbook as I was looking up a 1915 entry for Cwmtillery.
So Les will be looking for Handel Lewis, Evelyn Street, Abertillery,
1907.
The electoral registers are very good for checking names in that
period, though limited in that the entrees are male up until the
1920s and there are also restrictions on who was able to vote
dependent on house ownership etc in th e very early part of the
century. Perhps somebody out there more au fait than me with the
legalties regarding the eligibility to vote in thst period can comment.
Please also note the the Abertillery website is now
www.abertillery.net
and not abertillery-net.co.uk
Regards to all listers
