As I haven't done so in some time, I thought I'd repost my intersests:
My branch hail from the villages of Kilgwrrwg, Newchurch & Itton, near
Chepstow, and they are relatively easy to follow, especially as I have lived
in the area all my life too, but some ventured north & west in search of
work, & so far I have been unsuccessful in tracing them. The possible
destinations from the 1850s/1860s were Aberbeeg, Llanhilleth,
Aberdare/Mountain Ash & Pontypool.
WILLIAM BEVAN, born c.1841 is thought to have gone to Aberdare & had 2
daughters, BEATRICE (who married William KIRBY, a butcher?) & LAVINIA.
FRANK BEVAN, born c. 1844/5 is thought to have gone to Mountain
Ash/Aberpergwm(??) & had a son, HARRY.
LEWIS BEVAN, born c. 1845/6 thought to have gone to Abercynon or Aberafan &
had a son.
ROBERT BEVAN, born c.1840s, possibly gone to Miskin St, Aberdare, kept
whippets(?), & had children LOT, JOSHUA, JESSE, JACK/JOHN, MARTHA, BILL &
MARY.
I am also trying to trace Daniel BEVAN of Kilgwrrwg pre 1881.
His widow, Caroline BEVAN,(59yrs, grocer, b. Chepstow) is listed in 1881 as
living at Hill Cottage, Kilgwrrg, with:
Clorinda aged 23 b. Newchurch East
Henry Chas aged 20 b. Kilgwrrwg
Elias Sidney aged 18 b. Kilgwrrwg
I know that Daniel was born in Newchurch in 1810 to Francis BEVAN and Mary.
He married Caroline on 17 SEP 1837 in Chepstow Church but I can't find out
when he died or where he is buried.
