<Hello listers, can anyone tell me what coal mines men from the
Blackwood/Pontllanfraith areas are likely to have worked in about the turn
of the century (1900) to the 1940's.?>
Hi,
This probably isn't an easy question to answer as miners often worked in a
number of pits throughout their career. This was often because working
conditions and pay rates could vary. On top of this there were so many mines
in the area I wouldn't try and predict where a miner might work.
eg a miner from Crosskeys might have worked in Newbridge, Abercarn,
Crosskeys, Wattsville etc etc
The Welsh Coal Mines Website would be a good place to search.
You can find a link to it from this web page

nb my grandfather (an ex-miner) always said it was wise to live some
distance away from the pit as in the event of a roof collapse underground
the nearest miners were often called upon to remove it !
