Bruce,
As you can see, I am a Morgan. I live in Cardiff, not that far from
Whitchurch. However, my interest was aroused in your message not by the
line that gave me my Morgan name but by a distant connection on my mother's
side.
My great great grandfather on my mother's side was Charles Cross, who was
born in Llanfedw c1782. His wife's name was Susanna(h). I may have traced
their marriage to Bedwas on 3rd May 1826. There a Charles Cross of Llanfedw
married a Susanna Morgan of Whitchurch. As yet I have been able to discover
nothing more about this Morgan connection in Whitchurch.
Interestingly, the Cross family found itself in the
Pengam-Bedwellty-Penpedairheol area in the mid 19th century. This is not
far from Maesycwmmer, where William Morgan found himself in 1851.
For reference, the line from Susanna Morgan to me would be:
Charles Cross (Llanfedw) b c1782 m Susanna Morgan (Whitchurch) > Joseph
Cross (Llanfihangel y Fedw) 1828-1878 > Margaret Cross (Bargoed, Bedwellty)
1872-1950 m Gomer Leek (Trefforest) > Florence Margaret Leek (Ystrad Mynach)
1912-1998 m Harold Vivian Morgan (Resolven) 1910-1984 > Andrew Paul Morgan
(Cardiff) b 1948.
So, Morgan would have become Morgan again, via Cross and Leek.
I am sorry for not providing you with any more relevant data. However, it
is just possible that, somewhere along the line, we may find a connection.
That would be another case of wheels within wheels because my sister,
Yvonne, has lived near Melbourne, in Australia, since 1971.
If you have any further information, I would be only to pleased to receive
it. Likewise, if I come across anything of interest to you, I will forward
it.
Cofion.
