Hi
I hope I am not intruding on the exchanges of info regarding your emigrees to
the Scranton PA area and the Washburn St cemetery. I live in Scranton and
also have family buried there. They arrived here from the Nantyglo area and
Blaenavon. Some were born in Pontypool others in Bedwelty and Varteg. The Lewis
family is buried at Washburn St, the Humphrey's at Forest Hill and the Hoskin's
at Dunmore.
Washburn St was purchased a number of years ago (along with Shady Lane And
Abington Hills) by an individual that depleted the perpetual care funds for his
personal use. Yes he was convicted and did some hard time but that did not
help the deplorable condition of the cemetery. A great deal of volunteer effort
was spent to clean up a large portion of Washburn St in time for the funeral of
Hilary Clinton's father ( Hugh Rodham) and its condition can be considered
resonable at this time.
The records are in the hands of the owner and they will do a search to locate
graves for a charge of $25. Since I pass there frequently if I can do
something to help: feel free to ask.

**Sounds like our families may have come over at the same time. Lewis' and
Hoskins also settled here in Western Maryland. They probably came over to
work in the mines after hearing about the off of the owner of Consolidated
Coal Company, to pay the fare for the miner, his wife and children. They
also got free living quaters when they got here, albeit, they didn't get
much in the way of salary. By the way, my Dando's also came over about the
same time as the Lewis', Prices, Hoskins, etc.
