Dear Don --
I have tried to follow the Bryn Mawr messages and am intrigued by the
exchange regarding Evan Hughes, Benjamin Hughes and the Powell's..I have similar
connections, know quite a bit about Benjamin, his home and his bank.. remember
my Father discussing the Powell connection..and have played in the Washburn St.
Cemetary where my g parents are also buried. I'm not sure with whom I should be
exchanging notes...I'll be walking thru Washburn tomorrow afternoon. Don

How interesting that all our interests and your cemetery visit should coincide! I wonder
how many of the rest of us on this maillist share the Brynmawr & Nantyglo/Scranton
connection? Considering how heavy the emigration was from the valley of the Ebbw Fach to
Scranton, Plymouth and vicinity, I should imagine there are quite a number of us. I'd
certainly love to find out more about the Hughes clan from any who are more informed than
I, as well as to learn more about Brynmawr folks' early years in PA.
I'm sure I'm too late to catch you before you visit Washburn St. today, but just
in case you haven't left yet, if you can possibly read William & James Powell
& Mary Phillips' marker in the south row of the Avondale plot it would be
fabulous! If this reaches you too late, then I hope you had a good visit and bore with
you the respects of many of us, including myself, who are too far away to honor our
ancestors there.
My best,
