Hello Annette
could this be the family? The ages are different to what you quote, but the names are the
same:
Gwent FHS 1871 Name Index:
5321/58/31 - Uchlawrcoed [Tredegar]
HALE, Elizabeth, 26
James, 29
James, 1
Mary Jane, 5
Thomas, 3
Pam
in New Zealand
I have been trying to find an ancestor whose widow is in the 1881
Census and whose children were supposedly born in Tredegar... but I
couldn't find them there in the 1871 Census at all. Does anyone have
access to an index who could give me the right place so I could look
them up, please?
James Hale was married to Elizabeth Thomas and was born around 1833.
He was a coal miner and in 1871 had children: Mary Jane, Thomas and
James (and possibily others older.) If they are not in Tredegar, are
they in New Tredegar? Elizabeth should be 36 and the children 5, 2 and
1.
I am pretty well stuck now. Can anyone help?
Many thanks,
Annette Reynolds
