Hello Geoff,
Commercial street does not exist in Ebbw Vale today or even for a very
long time. It shows it on the 1851 census in the Briery Hill area of
Ebbw Vale (near Christchurch Parish Church). Commercial Street, High
Street (still exists) and Armoury Terrace was the hub of the town back
then.
I will have a word with Keith Thomas and ask him if he has a photo of
the street. It may be in one of his books. His Email address is not
working at the moment or I would put you in touch with him.
John Ball took some great pictures of Bethcar/Market Street area a year
or two ago. Those 2 streets are now the main shopping areas of the town
nowadays of course.
I would willingly photograph Commercial street for you if it existed as
I am around the town quite a bit throughout the week.
best regards

Does anyone in Ebbw vale have a digital camera that they could use to
take a
picture of 28 Commercial Street for me?
I found it is still there, with Autoroute and it's where my Great Grandfather
lived in 1871 and probably earlier and my Grandfather was born.
Thanks to Keith Thomas I now find I had at least two great aunts.
I really will go down to Mon. in the spring.
I still have all the stuff about staying that many of you sent me in the summer
(before they carved my poor old ankle up!)
I suppose I should have asked first, is that the kind of request one should
make?
