I'm sorry to mention so late (been away) the Blaenau Gwent walks which
have proved so popular this last week. The walks are courtesy of Blaenau
Gwent Council, who are beginning to get their act together!
Frank Olding, Gwent Heritage officer, has been the team leader on the
walks, except for Tuesday, when Rodger Burchell carried out the Ebbw
Vale walk.
The walks were, Ebbw Vale, Nantyglo and Blaina, Abertillery and tomorrow
(Friday) is the Tredegar walk starting from the library ay 11am. Trevor
Jones (Trevor the milk), Tredegar's own M.B.E. will be part of the
walkers. Supposedly an easy walk, as far as the Sirhowy Ironworks site
so they say;) Brenda will be one of the walkers if her corns are ok!
We have had hot temperatures this week and some of the walkers have had
to be treated by the St John's ambulance people, who are always at hand,
of course. Sunburn, cramp, bunions, thirst, diarrhoea, constipation,
lack of plasters, gout, lack of alcohol, no shoes, no clothes, no
hairdo, no money, are some of the treatment afforded by this charity
group;))
Hope this is an event which will be carried out every year!
best regards
Barrie Jones, Gwent FHS
