This afternoon attended a family re-union of the above (see subject bar)
Blaenau Gwent families at Llanwenarth Hotel, near Crickhowell,
Monmouthshire.
People from Australia, America, North and South England, Blaenau Gwent,
etc. attended. Brenda and myself were not related to the families but
had the pleasure of bringing a lot of them into contact with each other
via the Blaenau Gwent list and Gwent Open Day events.
One of the ladies provided Gwent family history society, back in
1987,with an account of her Steley ancestor who made a diary(s) of her
journey to Australia back in the 19c. Others have given accounts of
families which have appeared in Gwent FHS journals as articles.
Most of the families were from the Blaina, Nantyglo, Brynmawr, Ebbw Vale
areas. Notable absentee was David Daniel from New Zealand who I was in
contact with up to 6 months or so. His Chilton and Bevan families lead
colourful lives. Maybe next year David?
A really good meal and interesting chat and more information to work on.
Some will be visiting our Beaufort HQ this Thursday (June 3rd) for our
research evening.
One relative, George William Bush, proved a real character! Any relation
to.........?
best regards
Barrie Jones, Gwent
