Hi Mark
Don't know whether this will be of any use to you, but I have a William
Phelps in my family tree who was apparently born circa 1839, possibly very close
to the village of Tafarnaubach. The William in question was a brother to my
3xgreat-grandmother, Martha Phelps. Martha's grandaughter, Sarah-Jane Thomas
(my g-grandmother), was born in the village of Pantywaun, which was near
Merthyr Tydfil, and married my g-grandfather, William Griffiths, who was born in
Tafarnaubach. Although Pantywaun no longer exists (it was demolished in the
1960s to make way for a giant opencast mine), it was no more than 2-3 miles away
from Tafarnaubach. Anyway, I have William and Martha's parents as a John
Phelps, born circa 1796, and a Sarah Lawrence, born circa 1799. I am hoping to
visit the county archives in the next month or so in order to carry out
further research into this branch of my family tree, so if this proves to be of
interest to you, then please let me know.
Mike Thomas
