Hello Everyone,
While sorting through some old saved emails the following caught my
attention.
It is mentioned that prior to Carmel, in 1808 there was a Congregational
Chapel in Llangattwg. Does anyone know the name or location of this chapel?
Thank you.

Carmel Welsh Independent, or Congregational Chapel, Beaufort, was
built
by 1821.Earlier meetings were held at the Carpenters shop (Old Boring
Mill) in 1817, according to Charles Parry's essay in 1869. Other history
accounts show meetings at the Rhyd-Y-Blew Inn and later at Refiners Arms
by 1817. Before 1808 there was a Congregational Chapel at Llangatwg
(Llangattock) where founder members, Mrs Miles and Watkin Williams
worshipped.
Carmel is situated just below the old Coach Inn, Rhyd-Y-Blew, a few
hundred yards below the A465, Swansea to Abergavenny (and onwards) road
at the main Ebbw Vale roundabout today.
William Moses wasn't at Carmel. In August 1866 the chapel was called
the 'New Carmel" , being re-built at that time.
Robert Hughes was the minister at this time and by 1872 he had taken up
another ministry at Cwmbran. No minister was at Carmel until 1876 when
Reverend William Griffiths, of Llanharan, Glamorgan took reins.
Saron, at Ebbw Vale (Briery Hill) was a sister chapel built in 1837.
William Moses may have been a minister of another Independent chapel in
the area perhaps?
