Thank you Peter. At first sight it seems we are not of a family directly
though we do have Aberystruth & Bedwellty in common.
George was a 'Gasman' or 'Gas Engineer' in birth/marriage certs. and
Thomas, my grandfather whom I never knew, was an Engineman. I do know
that he drove the engine(s) that sank the Pit Shafts in, variously; Yorks,
Durham, Cheshire, Leics and finally Notts where he eventually settled.
I can trace that by the births of the later children.
He became the Engine Winder at Gedling Colliery and even though he died in
1917, when I visited Gedling in 1944 he was still a legend to the older
miners.
I think the family left for Yorks in 1883 or thereabouts.
I'll do you a little resume of the Williams family later in the week and
pass it on to you just in case.
Thanks again for your interest and help. I'm getting used to it by now!
I spent most of last week in Gwent based in Cwmbran for the RO in the
forenoons but travelling afternoons and all day Thursday to the family
haunts. Breathtaking scenery.

Geoff,
As you can probably guess from my name, I am also researching my Williams
family. In fact I will be in Monmouthshire/Blaenau Gwent this week. One
common point is that my family were also in Bedwelty & Aberystruth.
My great grandfather was Arthur Williams b. abt 1836 Tredunnock, Mon
My grandfather was Alfred Arthur Williams b. 1865, Tredunnock, Mon. He
had
two brothers, William J. & Arthur A.
They were in Abertillery in 1871 and 1881.
In 1891 & 1901 they were in Brynmawr, Breconshire.
All were coal Miners.
I have a lot more details if they are your family too. If they are not,
then if you give me some details of your Williams family, I will keep and
eye open for them as I go through the records.
