I'm hoping info. on the 1891 Census will help clear up a chronological
mystery with regards to my g gf David SMITH. In 1891, David, born in
Blaina, was about 40 and was married to Margaret, born in Blaenau Gwent,
who was about 41. (In 1881, the family was living in Blaenau Gwent; in 1901,
David and his new family were living in Cwmtillery.)
On the 1901 Census, there is a son and daughter listed who couldn't possibly
be his children by his third wife, Alice, as his first wife, Margaret, was
still alive when these children were born. (She died in July, 1892). (The
children could be Alice's by a possible first marriage.)
The children in question are Hilda SMITH, born about 1891 in Hereford
Bromyard, and Cuthbert SMITH, born about 1890, also in Hereford Bromyard.
The other children in the Smith household in 1891 would be most or all of
these: Rachel Jane (age about 18), Abigail (age about 17), George (age
about 15), my gm Esther (age about 13), and Joshua (age about 7).
Birthplaces might be recorded as Blaenau Gwent, Blaina, or Abertillery.
To further complicate matters, David SMITH, was widowed by unknown wife
number 2 in this time period somewhere so, if Margaret's death date of 1892
is incorrect, the wife recorded in 1891 might be the mystery wife.
Thank you very much. I very much appreciate the kind people who volunteer
their time to do lookups for others.
Esther (Edmonton)
