Subject: Re: [BLAENAUGWENT] Greenaway query
Susan,
This will take me a while to find your Welsh family. Can you give me your
home address so I can send it to you?
Connie
Dear Fellow-searchers...... I'm not sure how I happened upon this
website/discussion group but I am so glad I did! I've thoroughly enjoyed
reading the queries and the support in finding more pieces to each others
puzzles.
My search has a few holes and I hope someone might have some info on the
Greenaway family from Pontypool, S. Wales (possibly nearby Garndiffaith) who
settled in the PIttsburgh, PA area mid 1800's..
.
My G. Grandfather William Greenaway (b.1832..where??) married my G.
Grandmother Susannah Prince ( b. 1837 in Brynmawr). William was a miner;
they had 4 children while in S. Wales: Alfred (b.1856), Samuel (b.1860),
Sarah (b.1861) and William (b.1863).
Mary Prince was Susannah's sister
My G. Grandfather came to PA in 1863 probably to work the mines during the
Civil War. when the War was over in 1865, Susannah followed with the 3 sons
(whatever happened to Sarah? no one knows, but possibly left with relatives
as the voyage in steerage would have been rough).
The family settled in mining communities in Wilkinsburg/Irwin area
(Pittsburgh) and had 7 more children one of whom (daughter Susannah) was my
grandmother.
Apparently William Greenaway had a brother who settled in the Scranton, PA
area, but I have no idea what his name was or where in the Scranton area.
I am also searching for any Prince family still in Wales (Brynmawr area?). I
thought the surname may have been Price as Prince is not a Welsh surname
...but the records seem clearly "Prince".
Any help would be great! Also...I sing in Cor Cymraeg De Califfornia (Welsh
Choir of Southern California
www.welshchoir.com) and will share your queries
with my fellow choristers, some of whom are Welsh and most of the rest of us
are Welsh descent.
Pob Hwyl!
Susanna
