Hi All!

Perhaps Mike Thomas has answered the question I tried to post previously --
do old records of families from Tredegar come under Blaenau Gwent?
I'm interested in Alfred Cullimore WILLIAMS and his family. The unusual
middle name, Cullimore (or perhaps Culli*n*more?) hopefully will help in
researching Williamses from Tredegar.
I've been lurking on the list for a long time but Williams and Tredgar made my
ears prick up! My Williams family came from Tredegar. Sadly my father never
left me with to much info other than saying that he had visited Tredegar
about 20 years ago now and even found the old family house.
His father - my grandfather - Henry Clifford Williams and his sister who must
have been Florence - we knew her as Aunt Flossie were both born in Tredegar
and then emigrated with their parents - I only remember a James - to Cape
Town, South Africa and not to the USA like so many others from S Wales.
He should appear in a census around 1880 and I think I found Henry Clifford in
the right census but having to make do with the free part of the services I
cannot view the fiche images.
There is a family story that says when James moved to South Africa his
brother - name now forgotten but I have old photos! - moved to Pittsburg and
supposedly became involved in the power generation industry.
Its quite interesting here in South Africa to open a telephone and find lots
of Williams'! Only problem is that almost everyone them trace their family
back to the emancipation of the slaves when they were registered and had to
choose surnames! Seems like that many of them took on the surnames of their
previous masters! I would hate to try and trace their family trees!
Be Blessed!
