Hi Shawn
How successful your search is will depend to a large extent, I suppose, on when your mob
decamped from Tredegar to Pennsylvania and whether you would be able to identify them on
any of the censuses from 1841 to when they crossed The Pond. As a Tredegar boy myself, and
one who has mostly been lucky enough to trace his ancestry back beyond the town to rural
Wales in the late 1700s, the websites I've found most useful are as follows:
www.rootschat.com
www.familysearch.org (for the 1881 UK census)
www.freebmd.org.uk
www.genesreunited.co.uk
I think I may have mentioned before on this site that I am in possession of a copy of
Oliver Jones's "Early Days of Sirhowy & Tredegar". It's quite a slim
volume, so if it would be of any interest/use to you I'd be happy, given a bit of
time(!), to try and photocopy it and send it to you. Gives you an idea of how the town
developed in its early days, at any rate.
Regards
Mike Thomas

Most of the genealogy I've found was at the local Courthouse here in
Allegany County, Maryland. This was followed by a trip to Wales with my
daughter.
I then found some more info at the local Genealogical Society, followed
by all the info I got from my mother and her sister and from lots of
cousins.
Then more Dandos who lived in Ohio and found my name on line.
This got as much Dando info as I found until the fellow who wrote the
book called me from Wales and then sent the book. We wanted to go back
to Wales again so we could meet him but...didn't go because we learned
of his death before we left the USA.
My other halves are Hamiltons.
Where do you live?

Although I have been quiet on this 'blog', I have been fascinated by
all of the interest and exchanges. Thanks to everyone that
participates, I read ALL of them!
Some of you are apparently quite advanced in geneology research. May I
kindly ask some of you to reply as to how to begin the process?
My own geneology comes from Tredegar but have been blocked somewhat
from family records by virtue of the fact that the family came to
America in the 1800's (Pennsylvania and her coal mines)and I have now
gone to Australia!
