Hi, Just for interest about the book History of Ebbw Vale, if it by the
author Arthur Gray Jones. It is still in print and can be still got from W
H Smiths. I have one from many years ago and wanted another for a cousin
and found that it was easy to still get. I have found it a super book and
is full of interesting details of the Valley's years ago. If you come
across the paragraph about an old lady called Mrs Mathias, it was a as it
turned out a distant relative of someone I met through the internet and was
trying to find out about her but had no idea where to start as he thought
she had come from the North of England. I sent him the details of the book,
and after a while he found out it was in fact the relative he had been
looking for all this time. How about that for a small world. grin. He
lives in Switzerland. Can you imagine how thrilled I was to have helped him
with just a simple few words in a book I was just happened to be reading.
Hope I haven't bored you, but thought you might find it interesting. Best
wishes Nadine. UK. Born a very long time ago in Ebbw Vale.

Hi Kate,
Gwynne here. I have a book called the History of Ebbw Vale which goes into
huge detail about the industrial development of the area.
It isn't indexed, sadly but as you have a date and a reference to the Iron
Industry it shouldn't take me long to work through the chapters he
"should"
be in.
It depends on what the term Iron master means in this context. It can mean
an owner in which case he will almost certainly be mentioned. If it means,
as it was with my grandfather, a man who has served an apprenticeship he
may
not be.
I'll be in touch later.
Gwynne
