I have posted this on other lists (Powys, Blaenau Gwent and both
Monmouthshire lists), so apologise if you have seen my other postings.
If anyone wants to pass on to other lists please do so:-
From April 1st 2002, anyone sending a cheque or postal order made out
to
'general records office' with their birth, marriage, death certificates
will have that cheque returned to them with their application and a
*nice* letter of apology!
The cheque or P.O. has to be made out to 'ONS'. That happened to me this
week**!**!
On the brighter side you can telephone your order through to
0870 2437788 quoting your credit/debit card details.
Or you could Fax request with above details quoting card number and
expiry date to 01704 550013.
There is also an email address for customer services, the officer being
Susan Dutton:- certificate.services(a)ons.gov.uk
The Call centre lines are open:-
Monday-Thursday's 8am -6pm
Friday's 8am -5pm
Saturday's 10am -4pm
The address is still the same:- PO Box2, Southport, Merseyside, PR* 2JD
and the cost per certificate still 8 Great Britain pounds.
Anyone contacting by telephone will be reminded where they are in the
queue, forbid! I was 3rd for 10 minutes, 2nd for the same and 1st for
another 5minutes until one of the call line people answered. It doesn't
take long if you have all the details to hand and the lady promised the
certificate in around 7 days. This *might* be an improvement to what I
have had to pay in the past.
Best of luck!
