From the BlaenauGwent-L(a)rootsweb.com comments about Crawshay Baily:
Is this Cosher Baily he lay dying'
And the neighbors all were crying
It would cost one hundred pound
Just to put him in the ground...
That man's gravestone ensures that generations to come will shiver at the
thought of him! They really wanted to make sure that he stayed in his
grave,
didn't they? My grand-parents used to tell me that fairly often, when a man
got a job with Crawshay Baily (why is it pronounced crawshaw?), that mans
wife would have herself a red-headed son about 9 months after the job
started. Some of my coal-mining ancestors came down from the Forest of
Dean, where the Baily family also had expansive mining interest.

Subject: [Bla'Gwent] Panticollic??farm and Tredegar Bevans
I am new on the list. My interest is in my gt gt grandfather William
Bevan
who went to work in the Stockton and MIDDLESBOROUGH STEELWORKS FROM THE
WELSH WORKS.According to family sources he came from nr Tredegar possibly a
place called Panticollic(or similar sounding) farm. Please can anyone search
around for this name on a local map?
He may have married an Ann Conway who may have been Irish. He went to
Stockton in early 1850's-I think- and had
Walter
James
Possibly a Margaret
at least one other daughter.
Any help gratefully received. I suspect they went back and forth to Wales
and
cannot find them in 1861 census for Middlesborough or Stockton.
Can anyone find them in Wales?
I would be so grateful for any help. my mother was a Bevan!
thanks
Diana
p.s. Anyone know about the migration to Teeside?
