Subject: [BlaenauGwent] Blaenau Gwent interests
Hi
I have very many FH interests in the Blaenau Gwent area and
below have listed some questions that I have yet to get leads on.
Before I list those, you may like to know that I have set up a new
Abertillery page (
http://www.abertillery-net.co.uk), which has a
genealogy page and message board. I hope it will be of use to you
looking for ancestors in the Abertillery/Llanhilleth areas.
Here goes with the questions (apologies for the length!):
My grandfather, David Williams was born in Twyn-y-deryn,
Nantyglo (1894) and his father (William - born, Twyn-y-deryn, 1856;
axeman - coal mines) and grandfather (lived in Twyn-y-deryn at
least from 1851 according to the census, but probably born in
Merthyr; he was an Iron Roller married to Mary - born Tredegar
accoring to 1851 census) also lived in Twyn-y-deryn.
I am trying to find out more about William William's wife who was
Mary Ann Pritchard and her family. She states in the 1881 census
at Twyn-y-deryn that was born in Tredegar, but in the 1891 census
(again resident at Twyn-y-deryn) that she was born in Nantyglo.
Her father was Jonathan Pritchard, a coal miner, deceased at the
time of their marriage in 1875 at Sardis Chapel, Pontypridd. Any
information on Mary Ann Pritchard and her father etc would be very
welcome indeed.
I am also looking for more about Margaret Evans, (father Evan
Evans miner), born in Garnfach, Nantyglo about 1840-42. She
married John Bath (miner) at Mynyddislwyn in 1865, who lived at
Cwmcelyn, Blaina in the 1851 and 1861 censuses with parents
George and Mary (Bath) and brother Henry.
Also trying to find out when William Llewellyn (Carpenter) who lived
with his family at Beaufort Hill (1871 census) died. It was before
1881 as his wife Ann (nee Stevens) remarried to Thomas Evans, a
miner from Blaina - living at Lion's Den Panteg in the 1881 census.
Finally also for now any knowledge of the whereabouts of the
following would be appreciated:
John and Margaret Bath in the area in the 1891 census - their
daughter Esther and her soon husband to be, Arnold Key (they
married in 1892 living in Wells Street Brynmawr), and George and
Eliza Tillings in the same census and probably the same area (i,e
Blaenau Gwent - Nantyglo?).
Thank you for any help and please do visit the website

Great to have a site on Aber - I'll visit again. BTW - how come the Green &
Whites were in blue on Saturday - was it the cold?
