Hi Owen
There does seem to be some detail missing here - perhaps an error in a place
of birth, age or maiden name? It's also not inconceivable that the marriage
register indexes are just simply incomplete!
Starting with Martha's place of birth, there are only two Martha Lloyds
indexed as having been born in the Bedwelty/Bedwellty
(
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/MON/Bedwellty/index.html )
district between Mar 1868 - Dec 1872:
SEP 1871 Martha Ann E. Lloyd Bedwelty 11a 93
DEC 1871 Martha Lloyd Bedwelty 11a 121
For William Ford's marriage there are only two marriages indexed where a
William Ford and a woman by the name of Martha are included on the same
register page during the period Mar 1886 - Dec 1891:
SEP 1890 William Baker Ford Winchester 2c 183
Martha Miller
DEC 1891 William Ford Liverpool 8b 20
Martha McDougall
Given Martha McDougall was born in the period Mar 1867 - Dec 1873, then
here's a potential birth for her:
DEC 1870 Martha Ann McDougall Bury 8c 416
(Going back to 1850 there are only two other Martha McDougalls indexed as
having been born: one in Bradford, Yorkshire - Jun 1863 - and one in West
Derby - Sep 1864. Was Martha Ann Mcdougall's mother's maiden name 'Lloyd'
by
any chance? Liverpool, Warrington and Bury are all on the same double-page
spread in my 3-mile road atlas of Britain.)
Looking for a William Ford marrying a woman by the name of Martha in the
Bedwellty district the following marriage shows up under the IGI for the
British Isles in the 'Family Search' database:
William Henry Ford married Martha Emily Watkins on 19th October 1896 at
Hermon Baptist Chapel, Abertillery, Monmouthshire.
Although the entry has been supplied by 'a member of the LDS church' and so
should be taken with a pinch of salt, the following entry appears in the
FreeBMD indexes:
DEC 1896 William Henry Ford Bedwelty 11a 157
Martha Emily Watkins
So, whether you have the incorrect maiden name, or Martha's mother's maiden
name instead of her own, or an age which was misstated in order that Martha
was 'old enough' to marry when she did - or simply that the indexes are just
incomplete for the records you require . . . is open to conjecture.
It might take ordering up a potentially spurious certificate or two (if you
can afford it) to see whether anything useful appears.
Best regards

Hello Brenda, Yes I agree William and Martha were married around
1890
(my
error). I have a copy of their second child's birth certificate which
gives Martha's maiden name as Lloyd. Neither Martha or William had
middle
names.
There was a rumour about a possible previous marriage for Martha. But
even if true, I am assuming that the birth cert. of her daughter Alina
giving her maiden name as Lloyd would be reliable. William Ford was born
in
Warrington c.1866.
Many thanks for your interest Brenda, it is much appreciated.
Regards Owen.
