Anne, on the Poor Law/removal order question, try these sites, which have
short, but very understandable, explanations.
Best wishes,

Subject: [BLAENAUGWENT] Removal Order
Hello Everyone,
May I pick your brains with some questions about Removal Orders and the
Poor Law?
I've discovered that my family was subject to a Removal Order in the
1830s.
I wonder , could anyone enlighten me about what a Removal Order was,
please? I suspect it may be related to the Poor Law and the return of
people to their home parish for assistance but would appreciate any
information.
Also, can anyone answer this question? How was it determined to which
parish an individual belonged? If it depended upon where a person is born
would their place of birth have to be proved by a note of a baptism in a
parish register (I'm concerned with the period around 1800, pre BMD
indices). I can't find my ancestors listed as being baptised in the parish
register of the place to which they were Removed. Might I assume they were
non-conformists or had no religion at all?
Any thoughts or suggestions will be gratefully received!
Anne
