Dear Esther,
Something is 'nagging' at the back of my head that overseas military were
separate. The criteria for a census is that people in the building at that
moment in time, only, are recorded. For example if someone is at work
they are not recorded for that building. So in the case of the military, I
presume they would be recorded wherever they were. If the PRO/FRO are
contacted, I am sure they can easily clear up the query very quickly and let
you know how to access such information. I know in the 'institution' search,
if you know the barrack details, you can trace serving military personnel in
Britain.
Tricia.

Tricia: If there was a separate census for the military, I wonder
why it
wasn't included with the rest of the 1901, as there must have been quite a
few people involved. Esther (Edmonton)
