Dette, I read your post with great interest. I too had a set of
g-g-grandparents (John Stack & Mary Riley) who were married at Elim
Chapel on 22 Feb 1859, before completing their vows at Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church in Tredgar later that same day. They were
originally from County Cork, Ireland. However, a possibly MORE
interesting point is that my other set of g-g-grandparents (who also
lived in Tredegar at the time are Morris and Ellen Shaw DALY/or DALEY
(depending on who the census taker was)...and I see that you too have a
DALY in your tree...there may be a connection. MY Daly family moved to
Wales from County Cork Ireland around 1850s....first to Glamorgan County
for a few years and then on to Tredegar before leaving for America around
1880. The men worked at the iron works in Tredegar as puddlers. Do you
have any info on your Patrick Daly at all? -Michael Dailey (current
spelling variation)

Hi List
I'm new to the list and thought I would post a query. I'm
searching for info on my great great grandparents Patrick WALLACE
and Catherine LENIHAN.
I know that they were married on 2 February 1858 in the Elim
Chapel, Tredegar. Their first son, James Thomas, was born in Nanty
Glo on 7 January 1859. A second son, David, was born in May 1861
possibly also in Nanty Glo. Sometime between 1861 and 1864, the
family moved as my great grandmother, Mary, was apparently born in
London in August 1864. I can find no record of her birth (nor of
David's) but the family left England in April 1865 bound for
Australia. A fourth son, Richard, was born on the voyage out. He
later died at the age of 6 months while the family were working on
the railway between Ipswich and Toowoomba in Queensland. Patrick
and Catherine had a further six children in Queensland.
I was able to find Catherine on the 1851 census residing in Rhymney
with her father, David, sisters Mary and Julia, and brother
Bartholomew. Mary married Patrick DALY in 1853 but nothing further
is known about her or the rest of the family.
Can anyone offer any help as to where I could find any further info
about them in Wales?
Thanking you in advance.
